A Fireplace can be a Thing of Beauty
I provide three different types of fireplace doors:
-
Standard fireplace doors made by Portland Willamette.
-
Custom fireplace doors made by Portland Willamette.
-
Custom fireplace doors hand made by me, Steve Gray.
High quality standard factory units offer many sizes, styles and
finishes, and can be made for corners and to exact sizes for an inside fit.
These are the nice doors that you normally find in quality homes in the area.
Some are stocked locally and they cost much less than my hand made doors. They
come ready to ship out of state if needed.
Top quality custom factory units are made to order to exact size and
shape that you need. More airtight than the standard doors, they are made of
1/4" thick solid steel. The factroy is faster I am, and their units cost less
than my custom doors. To the right is a picture of a Custom arched door made to
fit a rough rock fireplace, in polished Nickel, made by Portland Willamette.
They come ready to ship out of state.
Master quality custom doors that I make are made exactly as you wish. I
make one unit at a time and so there is frequently some backlog. They take much
longer to design and make and cost more than the custom factory units. More
information on these located further down this page.
Custom Fireplace Doors by Steve Gray
These doors are designed and made by master craftsman Steve Gray, who has over
three decades of experience in fine custom metal working and making airtight
wood burning appliances. Each doorset is individually designed to fit your
style and your Fireplace with precision. I'll provide scale drawings of
different door styles for you so that you can get a feel for what they would
look like in your fireplace.
The steel bars used in the doors, which are normally 1/2" thick solid steel, are
welded solidly together so that each frame is a single piece of steel with full
strength and no seams or joints. The welds are ground flat and polished so that
no welds or seams show and the edges and corners are carefully ground and
rounded off to give them a more pleasing softer look, which when they are plated
with polished brass or gold makes them look like big pieces of jewelry. There
is none of that typical sharp edged, stamped out, straight from the steel mill
look to these. When visitors see your new doors they will know that someone has
spent a lot of time and care on them.
Every fireplace doorset I make is elegant, highly efficient, and very rugged.
There are many finishes available, for a detailed explanation please click here:

Masonry fireplaces only! I make fireplace doors for solid masonry
fireplaces only. I don't make fireplace doors for or install them into metal
fireplaces, which are called zero clearance or tin can fireplaces by builders.
A masonry fireplace that has a steel shell heatolator is still a masonry fireplace.
